Garlic

Garlic could be considered Gidora’s Garden’s Signature crop. We planted our first crop in 1993 on Mason Road in West Sechelt, BC. We have since then collected and developed a wide variety of strains. Garlic is a crop that will adapt within a few years to it’s new climate giving better results over time. There are lots of subtle steps to producing excellent garlic. Gidora’s Garden has produced at least one exceptional strain that could be considered local, Kostyn’s Red Russianwhich is now considered by other Garlic Sellers to be a unique, locally adapted strain. It is a consistent large producer of beautiful light purple large bulbs.

Here is our garlic hanging in our drying shed. Kostyn's Red Russian on top and our Redrooffs Italian on the bottom.

Our second most important strain is Redrooffs Italian Softneck (originally from Oliver, BC). We use it for our braiding garlic.

Presently we grow 6 different strains of garlic that we find offer the best results in this climate.  We are always experimenting and trying new varieties. We firmly believe that bio-diversity even within our small farm is a good hedge against climate fluctuations and disease problems.

Our garlic is harvested in early July and will be available soon after. We offer beautiful braids, garlic powder and lots of wonderful fresh garlic for sale. For seed garlic sales call us at 604 885 2221 to inquire about availability.
